||ren, Barry R. McCaffrey
AND THE MASSACRE AT RUMALIA By MAJ GLENN MacDONALD, USAR (Ret) Like
a ghostly finger pointing from the grave, charges that then-MG Barry McCaffrey
ordered the slaughter of hundreds of Iraqi troops two days AFTER a cease-fire
ended the Gulf War, just won't go away. This is bad news indeed for President
Bill Clinton's "drug czar." Instead of the establishment media ignoring
Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent Seymour Hersh's masterful expose
in the May 22 issue of The NEW YORKER, the wall of silence is crumbling....
An investigative report for the New Yorker by veteran muckraker Seymour
Hersh alleges that Clinton drug czar Barry McCaffrey orchestrated a 1991
massacre of hundreds of Iraqi troops, two days after a cease-fire went
into effect at the end of the Gulf War.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist quotes numerous on-the-record combat
veterans, both senior officers and enlisted men, describing the "systematic
destruction" of a 5-mile-long column of Iraqi armor, vehicles and
personnel making what was described as an orderly, U.S.-sanctioned retreat.
War crimes? [salon.com]
Army insider calls: "One of the worst war crimes by U.S. forces since
the My Lai massacre in "Vietnam." Barry
McCaffrey and The Massacre at Rumalia
McCaffrey took over the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy
in 1996. He came. He failed. He quit. Another drug czar leaves a failed
tenure in office, declaring victory with a mess of skewed statistics.
Barry McCaffrey has been married for thirty-four years to the former Jill
Ann Faulkner. She serves as National Chairman for the Armed Forces Emergency
Services of the American Red Cross and is a member of the Board of Directors
for Knollwood -- The Army Distaff Hall. The McCaffreys have three married
children: Sean, a U.S. Army infantry Major; Tara, an intensive care nurse
and a U.S. Army Washington National Guard Captain; and Amy, a seventh
grade school teacher.
